Today, October 11, 2024, David Zeferino Malembana, one of the pillars of the Mozambique national football team, turns 29 years old. On this special day, he also faces the challenge of helping his team in the fourth round of qualifiers for the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, an important milestone in his career.
Born in 1995 in Germany, David Malembana has a rich history connecting him to three nations: Mozambique, Madagascar, and Germany. His father is of Mozambican and Malagasy origin, while his mother is German, giving him a unique perspective on both football and personal life. Despite being born and raised in Germany, he always dreamed of representing Mozambique on the international stage.
Malembana began his career in 2013, playing for Dynamo Dresden II. After two years, he transferred to Goslarer SC 08 and, in 2016, joined Berliner FC Dynamo. At Berliner, the central defender stood out with 56 appearances in the Regionalliga Nordost, in addition to winning two Berlin Cups.
The year 2019 marked a major breakthrough in his career when he signed a three-year contract with Lokomotiv Plovdiv of the Bulgarian First League. Soon after his arrival, Malembana made his debut against Slavia Sofia in a 3-2 victory, showcasing his defensive prowess and his quick adaptation to new challenges. In February 2022, he transitioned to Lokomotiv Sofia, one of Plovdiv's rival clubs, continuing to shine in Bulgaria.
Although born in Germany, Malembana's heart has always been connected to Mozambique. His dream of playing for the Mozambican national team finally came true in 2021 when he made his debut in a match against Cameroon in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
