Mozambican international Shaquille Nangy was a key player in Sagrada Esperança's victory, securing their qualification for the group stage of the African Champions League. Starting the full 90 minutes of the second leg, Nangy made a decisive contribution to his team's comeback, winning 3-0 and overturning the 1-0 deficit from the first leg.
Sagrada Esperança's strategic preparation, led by coach Roque Sapir, was based on the meticulous scouting work carried out by Francisco Matsinhe, who provided the coach with the necessary tools to overcome their opponent. The Angolan team did not disappoint and took to the field determined to change the course of the tie.
In the opening minutes of the game, Sagrada Esperança demonstrated its strength. In the 7th minute, Alexandre opened the scoring, putting the Angolan team ahead. In the 33rd minute, Mussa extended the lead to 2-0, turning the aggregate score around to 2-1 in favor of Sagrada Esperança. In the second half, Txianda scored the third goal of the match, sealing the final result at 3-0 and guaranteeing the team's qualification for the Champions League group stage.
With the victory, Sagrada Esperança joins two other Angolan teams, Desportivo da Lunda Sul and Bravos do Maquis from Moxico, who qualified for the CAF Cup group stage, consolidating Angola's presence in continental competitions.
Besides the success of Sagrada Esperança, another Mozambican figure who stands out in the African club competitions is Almiro “Miro” Lobo, who works as an assistant coach at Bravos do Maquis, one of the teams that also secured passage to the group stage of the CAF Cup.
On the other hand, the weekend wasn't entirely positive for Angolan football, with Petro Atlético de Luanda's disappointment. The oilmen failed to qualify for the group stage of the African Champions League, being eliminated by AS Maniema of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The goalless draw at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda wasn't enough to overturn the 2-1 defeat suffered in the first leg in Kinshasa.
With this performance in the African club competitions, Shaquille Namgy and other Mozambicans involved demonstrate the growing influence of Mozambican players in African football, contributing significantly to the success of their teams and raising the country's profile on the continental football scene.
