Gilberto Mendes Confident in the Mambas' Campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

The Secretary of State for Sport, Gilberto Mendes, expressed confidence in the ability of the Mozambican national football team, the Mambas, to successfully begin their qualifying campaign for the final phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), which will be held in Morocco.

In recent statements, Mendes highlighted that the continuity of coach Chiquinho Conde is an important advantage for the team. “Chiquinho Conde's continuity is a valuable asset, as he knows the players and the group well. Renewal was never in question, and the decision to keep the coach demonstrates our commitment to a long-term strategy,” stated Mendes.

The Mambas begin their quest for a place in the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) on Friday, facing Mali in Bamako. Mendes expressed optimism about the team's performance, stating that "the quality of the Mambas guarantees a good result." The Secretary of State stressed the importance of a careful approach to the first two qualifying matches against Mali and Guinea-Bissau. "We need concentration and alignment to achieve a good result. The opponents are strong, but we have a competent team and I am sure that we will bring more joy to the Mozambican people," said Mendes.

He also recalled the recent history with Guinea-Bissau, which was a significant obstacle in qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, when Mozambique drew with the Djurtus and failed to advance. “It is crucial that we approach these games with the utmost care and preparation,” Mendes added.

The Mambas are already in Bamako, with the team almost complete and undergoing intensive training sessions before Friday's game, scheduled for 9 pm Mozambique time. Gilberto Mendes' confidence reflects the enthusiasm and hope surrounding the national team as Mozambique begins its journey in search of a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
