As part of the celebrations for the 117th anniversary of the city of Beira, the Municipal Council paid a special tribute to two illustrious representatives of local culture: actor Aníbal Chiteve and the founding vocalist and composer of the band Djaaka, Walter Olesse.
The ceremony, held in the presence of family members and a prominent feature of the commemorative program, included the presentation of an award and a check for 75,000 meticais. This tribute recognizes these artists' significant contributions to the city's culture and identity.
Walter Olesse, who passed away in 2004, was a prominent figure in Mozambican music. He is the author of the work "Hoye Hoye Beira/Wanguissane Beira," considered a city anthem. The award and check were presented to his son, reflecting the city's respect and affection for the artist's memory.
Aníbal Chiteve, also honored, is widely recognized as one of the finest actors in the city of Beira. His contributions to theater and local culture have been recognized for his dedication and talent over the years.
By recognizing the work of these two artists, the Beira Municipal Council reaffirms its commitment to valuing local culture and respecting the figures who helped shape the city's identity. These tributes are part of festivities that celebrate not only Beira's history but also its citizens' ongoing contributions to the region's cultural and artistic development.
