Today marks the start of the participation of one of the teams representing Mozambique in the 2024 African competitions. Ferroviário da Beira, under the command of Mozambican coach Daúto Faquirá, takes to the field at 7 pm to play the first leg of the first qualifying round for the group stage of the African Champions League. The opponent will be Mbabane Swallows FC, from Eswatini, and the game will take place at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, in Pretoria, South Africa.
Daúto Faquirá, a Portuguese coach born in Mozambique, leads the team with the aim of securing a significant advantage for the second leg, which will be played in Mozambique. This is Faquirá's first time participating in this competition as a coach, although Ferroviário da Beira already has experience in African competitions.
Tomorrow, the 17th, it will be Black Bulls' turn to take the stage. The team, coached by Portuguese manager Hélder Duarte, will face Alizé Fort from the Comoros Islands in the first leg of the first qualifying round for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. Hélder Duarte, like Faquirá, is making his debut in this competition as a coach, but the club he represents already has a history in African competitions.
The presence of these two Mozambican teams in African competitions is a source of pride for the country, which hopes to see both advance to the next stages and successfully represent Mozambique on the continental stage. Today's and tomorrow's matches are just the beginning of a journey that, with the support of the fans and the hard work of the coaches and players, could lead to success in the 2024 African competitions.
