After intense concern about the possibility of withdrawal due to a financial deficit, the Mozambique senior women's national basketball team is finally confirmed to participate in the World Cup pre-qualifying tournament, which will take place in Mexico from August 19 to 25.
The topic of yesterday's article highlighted the difficulties faced by the Mozambican Basketball Federation (FMB), which was dealing with a financial deficit of two hundred thousand dollars (equivalent to 12 million meticais). This situation was considered the "Achilles' heel" that could jeopardize the team's presence at the international event.
However, in a positive turn of events, the FMB, with crucial support from the government through the State Secretariat for Sports (SED), managed to resolve the financial issue in less than 24 hours. FMB president Paulo Mazivila confirmed that the necessary funds have been secured and that the entire financial situation will be resolved by the end of tomorrow.
With the financial issue resolved, the national team will depart for Mexico next Friday, arriving three days before the tournament begins. Mozambique is in Group B of the competition, along with hosts Mexico, Montenegro, and New Zealand. The team will continue its domestic preparations, replacing the training camp planned for the United States of America, which was canceled.
This development marks a significant relief for the team and supporters, allowing Mozambique to fully participate in the pre-qualifying tournament and continue its pursuit of a spot at the Basketball World Cup.
