Gabriel Júnior leaves the command of Mozambican boxing

Mozambican boxing enters a new phase with Gabriel Júnior's decision not to run for re-election as president of the Mozambican Boxing Federation (FMB). He assumed the presidency in 2017. Júnior ends a cycle marked by seven years of achievements and challenges, paving the way for new leadership.

Gabriel Júnior, during his tenure at the FMB, played a crucial role in the growth and popularization of boxing in Mozambique. Under his leadership, the country accumulated nearly 100 medals in international competitions, a feat that elevated the nation's status in the sport. Furthermore, Mozambican boxing gained unprecedented visibility, attracting attention both nationally and internationally.

One of the highlights of his administration was the organization of important competitions on Mozambican soil. Mozambique hosted renowned events such as the Regional Championship of Zone IV, held at the Maxaquene pavilion, and the African Boxing Championship, held at the UEM Gymnastics Pavilion. These competitions not only promoted the development of local boxing but also put Mozambique on the continental sports map.

Another highlight of Gabriel Júnior's administration was the historic performance of Mozambican boxers at the Olympic Games. In Tokyo, Alcinda Panguana and Rady Gramane reached the quarterfinals, securing an Olympic diploma, representing the country's best performance since the heyday of the legendary Lurdes Mutola. At the Paris Games, Mozambique once again shone, with Tiago Muxanga and Panguana demonstrating their strength in the early stages of the competition.

Gabriel Júnior acknowledged that his tenure at the helm of the FMB is coming to an end and signaled the need for leadership renewal to continue strengthening Mozambican boxing. His decision is rich in symbolism, reflecting both the humility and vision of a leader who guided the sport to unprecedented heights.

As Gabriel Júnior prepares to leave the FMB, the legacy he built will be remembered as one of the most fruitful and transformative periods in the history of Mozambican boxing. His contribution goes beyond medals and titles; he planted the seeds for the future of boxing in the country, a future that will undoubtedly continue to flourish with the solid foundation he helped build.
