A lack of funds is jeopardizing the participation of athletes from Inhambane in the 2024 National Taekwondo Championship, which will be held this weekend in the port city of Nacala, in Nampula province. This event is a crucial opportunity for local talent to excel on the national stage, but the current financial situation is creating uncertainty regarding the team's presence.
Inhambane, which was the overall champion in the last edition of the championship, now faces serious financial challenges that could affect the performance of its athletes and the development of taekwondo in the province. Only five of the ten athletes expected to compete in the event will be able to do so due to a lack of resources for transportation and logistics.
The lack of financial support not only limits athletes' participation but also demotivates young talents who see sport as an opportunity for personal and professional growth. It is urgent that authorities, sponsors, and civil society unite to find solutions that guarantee the presence of all athletes in the national championship, ensuring they can compete under fair and dignified conditions.
Structured and consistent support is essential to ensure that athletes from Inhambane can adequately represent their province and country, maintaining the legacy and development of taekwondo in Mozambique.
