Serbian Slavoljub Gorunovic is the new coach of the Mozambique Women's Senior National Basketball Team.

The Mozambican Basketball Federation (FMB) announced the hiring of Serbian Slavoljub Gorunovic as the new coach of the senior women's national basketball team. Gorunovic replaces Spanish coach Iñaki Garcia, who was unable to take the position due to family reasons.

Slavoljub Gorunovic, born on February 15, 1970, was chosen by the FMB (Mexico Basketball Federation) to lead the national team in the pre-qualification for the FIBA World Championship, which will take place between August 19 and 25, 2024, in Mexico City. With the competition fast approaching, the federation moved quickly to secure an experienced and competent coach to prepare the team for this crucial challenge.

Gorunovic is already in Maputo and will be officially presented on Thursday, July 18th. His arrival is viewed with optimism by the FMB, which believes that his vast experience and knowledge of international basketball can bring an immediate positive impact to the team.

Expectations are high, as pre-qualification is a crucial step in securing Mozambique's participation in the Basketball World Cup. With just over a month to prepare, Gorunovic will have the task of evaluating the squad, implementing his strategies, and ensuring the team is ready to compete at a high level.

The signing of Gorunovic reflects the FMB's commitment to seeking the best for the national team and puts Mozambique in a favorable position to achieve its goals on the international basketball stage.
