The Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) announced that Mozambique has been chosen by the Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) to host the regional qualifying phase of the African Under-17 Championship. The tournament is scheduled to take place in the Greater Maputo region in mid-December of this year.
The decision was made by the COSAFA Executive Committee following a detailed inspection carried out by a delegation of experts in the planning and organization of sporting events. During the visit, several facilities in Maputo and Matola were evaluated, including hotels that could accommodate the delegations of the participating teams and the organizing staff.
Among the venues inspected, the Black Bulls Association Complex in Tchumene stood out, having been identified as a suitable space for both matches and team training during the competition. COSAFA approved two fields for the matches and confirmed accommodation for all visiting delegations, including members of the organization from COSAFA and CAF.
The visit by the evaluation team mandated by COSAFA included a strategic meeting with the Secretary of State, along with the FMF management and staff. During the meeting, crucial issues related to the organization and coordination of the event were discussed, such as security, transportation, and the preparation of the necessary infrastructure.
Hosting this tournament in Mozambique represents a significant opportunity for the country to demonstrate its capacity to host large-scale sporting events, as well as to promote youth football and inspire future generations of Mozambican athletes.
