Ferroviário de Maputo's defensive midfielder, Ezequiel, has been called up at the last minute to join the "Mambas" in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where the Mozambican National Team is participating in the COSAFA Cup. Ezequiel will fill the spot left by central defender Edmilson Dove, who was not authorized by his club, Kaizer Chiefs, to compete in the tournament.
The Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) is now awaiting confirmation from COSAFA so that Ezequiel can travel to South Africa. Edmilson Dove, who was with the group in Port Elizabeth, left for Johannesburg today following his club's decision.
Mozambique will face Eswatini next Saturday in the second round of Group A. In the opening round, held yesterday, the "Mambas" drew 1-1 with hosts South Africa. Young Chamito, from Associação Black Bulls, scored Mozambique's goal.
The substitution of Edmilson Dove for Ezequiel represents a strategic change for the Mozambican team, which seeks to advance in the competition. Ezequiel's participation is eagerly awaited as the team prepares for its upcoming challenges in the COSAFA Cup.
