The Mozambican beach volleyball duo, Osvaldo Mungoi and José Mondlane, known as Zelito and Touch, began a decisive journey towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by arriving unexpectedly in Morocco, where they will participate in the final qualifying round.
After intensive training at the Porto High Performance Center and a trip to Brazil to hone their skills, Zelito and Touch are ready to face the African qualifying round with the clear goal of securing a spot in the Olympic Games. Under the guidance of national coach Alexandre Pontel, the duo focused intensely on physical and tactical preparation, aiming to maximize their chances of success in the competition in Morocco.
The duo's arrival marks a crucial moment, as the African continent will only have one representative of each gender at the Olympic Games, increasing the pressure on Zelito and Touch to achieve victory in the African Qualification Window.
During their internship in Brazil, Zelito and Touch demonstrated their competitiveness by winning first place in a tournament held at Pezão Beach Sport Club and second place at Verde Vida Sand Clube São João da Barra in São Paulo. These positive results reinforce the confidence of the Mozambican Volleyball Federation and the Mozambique Olympic Committee in the duo, especially after the women's team, previously considered favorites, withdrew due to academic commitments.
Zelito and Touch's focus and determination, combined with Alexandre Pontel's technical support, are crucial to their chances of success in the qualifying round in Morocco.
