Minister of Culture Guarantees Support to the “King of Marrabenta”

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Edelvina Materula, pledged support to the iconic artist Dilon Djindji, known as the "King of Marrabenta," who is in a weakened state of health. Materula guaranteed medium-term support to meet the musician's priority and urgent needs.

The Minister's visit took place yesterday, when she and her team were welcomed by Dilon Djindji and his family. Materula reported that, despite his health difficulties, Djindji maintained his characteristic spirit, appearing cheerful and energetic throughout the visit. Accompanied by his wife, the artist participated in an engaging and moving conversation, which, according to Materula, was a warm and meaningful moment.

“"Always cheerful and energetic, despite his very poor health, the conversation flowed alongside his wife. It was an emotional afternoon, where my work team and I embraced the family," Materula declared, emphasizing the importance of the meeting.

The Minister made a point of emphasizing her admiration and respect for the "King of Marrabenta," a title Djindji continues to carry with pride, honoring this important Mozambican musical genre. "We show complete openness to the 'King of Marrabenta,' who continues to carry the title with pride and honor this musical genre," Materula stated.

Dilon Djindji, a living legend of Mozambican music, has a long career dedicated to Marrabenta, a musical style that has become a symbol of Mozambique's culture and identity. The Minister's intervention and the promised support are a recognition of the artist's legacy and an effort to ensure he receives the necessary care at a time of vulnerability.
