Born in Mozambique, Assa Matusse began her musical journey early on, immersed in a rich cultural tradition that profoundly influenced her. Her talent and passion for music led her to explore various styles, but it was in jazz that she found her true calling. Based in Paris, a city that breathes art and culture, Assa Matusse quickly gained prominence in the local music scene. Her ability to interpret jazz classics with a fresh twist, combined with her magnetic stage presence, won over French audiences and, subsequently, international audiences.
Assa Matusse, known as the "Girl from the Neighborhood," is a Mozambican singer and songwriter, born on June 12, 1994, into a family of five siblings in the Mavalane neighborhood of Maputo, and currently resides in France.
In his early years, Assa Matusse won first place in the "Tribo Júnior" competition and third place in "Super Tardes," both promoted by STV. In addition, he had a notable participation in UMOJA (Cultural Exchange between African countries and Norway).
Assa Matusse sings in several languages, including Portuguese, English, and French, but it is in Changana, her native language, that she expresses herself with the greatest authenticity and emotion.
Inspired by renowned artists such as Lira and Asa, from South Africa and Nigeria respectively, as well as Mozambicans Fany Mpfumo and Madala, and South African Hugh Masekela, Assa Matusse has been increasingly gaining recognition in Mozambique and consolidating her presence on the international music scene.
In 2013, Assa Matusse received the "Female Revelation Artist" award for her song "Estranho" at the prestigious Ngoma Moçambique competition, organized by Rádio Moçambique. In 2016, she won the international competition "The Voice of Pangea," held in Madrid, Spain.
With two albums released so far, "Mais Eu", released in 2017, and "Mutchangana", released in April 2023 in Paris.
