Expectations are high as the Mozambique National Boxing Team prepares to enter the action at the XIII African Games 2023, hosted in the Ghanaian capital. Today marks their debut at the Bokum Boxing Arena, with boxers Lázaro Comé, Armando Sigaúque and Albino Gabriel (Solomone) ready to face the challenges of the round of 16.
This moment is especially significant because boxers Alcinda Panguana and Rady Gramane have already secured two bronze medals, while Isabel Mulungo guaranteed silver with her direct entry into the semi-finals and final, due to the limited number of competitors in her category. In boxing, third and fourth places guarantee the bronze medal, making Alcinda and Rady's achievements even more admirable.
Lázaro Comé, the youngest male boxer, will face his first major challenge as a senior against Tunisian Z. Romdhani. His promotion to the main team is a result of his talent being recognized by respected coach Lucas Sinóia. Comé already had a baptism of fire at the African Championships held in Mozambique last year, and now he is ready to showcase his skill on an international stage.
The absence of Bernardo Marime, without detailed explanations provided by the Boxing Team coordinator, António Hélio, adds an element of mystery and challenge to the team. However, the remaining boxers are determined to represent Mozambique with pride and seek success in the ring.
Armando Sigaúque and Albino Gabriel (Solomone) will also face Tunisian and Gabonese opponents, respectively, in their matches. Their performances will be eagerly awaited as the team seeks to advance in the competition and achieve notable results.
For Alcinda, Rady, and Isabel, whose fights are scheduled for the coming days, the pressure and determination will be palpable as they seek to increase Mozambique's pride and reputation on the international boxing stage.
