The Mozambique national football team, affectionately nicknamed the "Mambas," is currently in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the final phase of preparation ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), which will take place in Abidjan.
Currently, 13 players are present at the training camp, including the 10 who play in Moçambola, the main national league, as well as Lau King, Ratifo, and Malembana. The coaching staff, led by Chiquinho Conde, is also already on site, working hard to refine strategies and tactics.
The latest additions, Geny Catamo, Guima, Bruno Langa and Witi, who are currently committed to games for their clubs this weekend, will arrive on Friday, December 29th, along with part of the coaching staff.
The squad that plays abroad will begin arriving in the coming days, highlighting names such as Ratifo from CfR Pforzheim in Germany, Malembana from FC Noah in Armenia, and Lau King from Sagrada Esperança in Angola, all scheduled to arrive on December 28th.
The preparation schedule includes three games in Johannesburg, with a crucial match against Lesotho confirmed so far on January 6th. These friendlies play a crucial role in assessing the team's fitness and cohesion before the continental competition.
The planned arrivals of players who play abroad demonstrate the geographical diversity of the clubs represented, from Turkey to Spain and Portugal, highlighting the international scope of these players' experience.
The full squad, including Edmilson Dove of Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, Bruno Langa of Chaves in Portugal, and others, will be reunited by the end of December, preparing to depart for Abidjan on January 9, 2023.
