Ziqo da Silva asks the public: Inequality or December Hits?

Following a recent post that stirred up social media, Ziqo da Silva returns to the public to ask for their opinion on which topic to address in future interventions. The artist questions whether he should focus on the situation of inequality and lack of "taco" (a slang term for resources) for the people or whether he should direct attention to the highly anticipated "December hits".

“I’m being approached by some young media personalities to answer for saying that the People have finally opened their eyes. So, should I talk about the situation of inequality and the lack of resources for the People, or should I talk about the hits of December?” Ziqo writes.

In his post, Ziqo expresses his willingness to address social issues, such as inequality, or to embrace the festive spirit by talking about the musical hits characteristic of the month of December. This dilemma places the artist in a position where he must weigh the options between addressing serious themes related to inequality and providing entertainment through his music.

Internet users quickly responded to the question, offering a variety of perspectives. Some defended the importance of discussing inequality, while others expressed concern about the lack of December hits, a culturally significant phenomenon in Mozambican music.

Comments like “Regarding the hit, the people will settle it with the noise-maker in this heat. Let's just talk about inequality, let's deal with the music ourselves,” reflect the preference of some for an approach more focused on social issues. However, other comments, such as “We're already used to tacos, but this lack of a hit is worrying,” highlight the public's anxiety regarding the December song.

The duality of opinions expressed by internet users highlights the complexity of the choices artists often face, balancing between entertaining the public and addressing pertinent social issues. Ziqo da Silva's response to this poll may shape the narrative of his public presence in the coming years.

Regardless of the choice, Ziqo's interaction with the public demonstrates a genuine desire to involve his followers in decisions related to his work. This interaction builds a bridge between the artist and his audience, providing a space for the expression of opinions and the co-creation of content. It now remains to be seen how Ziqo's final decision will resonate with the Mozambican public.
