In the exciting first round of the National Junior and Youth Championships, the junior teams of Sóproteção and the youth teams of Favela United stood out with convincing victories over Língamo and Futebol Clube da Beira, respectively. The results of 10-1 and 3-1 reaffirmed the potential of these teams and placed them in prominent positions in Groups “A” and “C” of the competition, which began on Monday in the country's capital.
Under the guidance of coach Zema Passades, the SóProtecção de Quelimane junior team demonstrated their strength by defeating Língamo 10-1. Martinho was the standout player, contributing an impressive four goals, while Big Mama and Zaíde each scored two. Careca and Will completed the scoring, showcasing a remarkable offensive display that certainly left its mark on the first matchday.
Meanwhile, Favela United, in the youth category, achieved a significant 3-1 victory over Futebol Clube da Beira. This initial win puts the team in a good position in Group “C” and highlights its ability to face competitive challenges.
In one of the most anticipated matches, União Desportiva de Songo, who started with a victory, faced the challenge of Costa do Sol, runner-up in the Maputo city championship, in the "B" series. The final result was a thrilling 1-1 draw, demonstrating the competitiveness of this initial phase of the championship.
The National Youth Championship, taking place in the city of Chimoio, Manica, features eight teams divided into two groups, while the junior category has 14 teams distributed across three groups. The tournament format stipulates that the top two teams from each group will advance, as well as the two third-placed teams from the groups of five teams.
