Portuguese coach Hélder Duarte recently announced his departure from Ferroviário da Beira, the club he led to the 2023 Moçambola Championship title, with a record of eleven wins, six draws, and five losses in 22 matches. Despite his success, the coach chose not to renew his contract, revealing in an interview with “O Progresso de Paredes,” his local newspaper in Portugal, that he received renewal offers but failed to reach an agreement with the board, headed by Valdemar de Oliveira.
Seeking new challenges, Hélder Duarte is considering offers from other clubs in Mozambique, highlighting the possibility of returning to manage Associação Black Bulls (ABB), where he had a remarkable stint in 2021, winning the national championship. This project seems to have special appeal for the coach, who sees ABB as a significant opportunity to continue the work he helped build.
In addition to ABB, União Desportiva do Songo has also expressed interest in hiring Hélder Duarte, especially if it decides not to continue with the coaching team led by Serbian Srdjan Zivojnov. The "hydroelectric" team faced challenges in the 2023 season, failing to achieve its goals.
The Portuguese coach, born on March 25, 1982, has a rich career in football, standing out as a player for União Sport Clube de Paredes between 1991 and 2000, before beginning his career as a coach in 2003/2004. Throughout his career, he has played for clubs such as Lousada, Dragon Force, Black Bulls, and Famalicão.
After a brief stint with Futebol Clube de Famalicão as assistant coach in the Portuguese top flight in 2022, Hélder Duarte returned to Mozambique in February to take charge of Ferroviário da Beira, cementing his success in the 2023 Moçambola. With several offers on the table, the coach is now weighing his options to decide his next chapter in Mozambican football, leaving fans and the sports community eager for his verdict.
