The sad news of the passing of renowned Mozambican comedian and actor Laquino Fonseca has deeply shaken the artistic community in Mozambique. Laquino, who starred in the hit film "Resgate," the first Mozambican production to appear on Netflix, was facing serious health problems, including an umbilical hernia, exacerbating an already complicated health situation.
The diagnosis came at a particularly challenging time, when the art market in the country, as throughout the world, is practically paralyzed due to the pandemic, leaving many artistic professionals in a critical financial situation. Laquino began a race against time, seeking to raise 170,000 meticais (about 1,900 euros) to pay for the much-needed medical treatment.
The support of fellow artists and friends, such as the Mozambican singer Doppaz, was crucial. Doppaz used his Facebook page to share a photo alongside Laquino, asking for help with the actor's treatment. However, sadness swept through social media when Doppaz announced Laquino Fonseca's passing tonight.
Laquino Fonseca leaves behind a legacy of significant contributions to the Mozambican film and entertainment industry. His passing is felt not only as a loss for Mozambican art, but as a reminder of the need to support arts professionals in difficult times.
