Even after leaving the country, the challenges continue for the Samurai, who face the Mexican national team in the Qualifying Tournament for the 2026 World Cup.

After overcoming challenges at the national level to secure their place in Mexico for the 2026 FIBA World Championship Qualifying Tournament, the players will land in the Mexican capital and head straight from the airport to the pavilion, with no time for rest or adequate preparation. This situation puts the team at a significant disadvantage, as they will face the host country in their opening match already exhausted and without the opportunity to fully recover from the long journey.

The national team's trip was complicated, with the delegation split into two groups due to the delayed issuance of airline tickets by the Mozambican Basketball Federation. One group of five members stopped in Atlanta, United States, before continuing on to Mexico City, while the second group, with the remaining 12 members, passed through Frankfurt, Germany, before arriving at their destination.

The opening game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. local time on Monday. The team will then have a day off, but will return to the court to face Montenegro and New Zealand the following two days.

If the team manages to finish in the top two of its group, it will advance to the semifinals, where it will face the best teams from Group A. The task is difficult, but the ultimate goal is to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup in Germany.
