Teresa da Gra\u00e7a Rangel Semende, better known as Tchakaze, turns 35 today. Born in Maputo, this multifaceted artist is one of the most authentic and influential voices in contemporary Mozambican music, recognized not only for her talent as a singer, songwriter, and actress, but also for her firm commitment to social causes.<\/p>\n

From a very young age, Tchakaze demonstrated an artistic vocation. At the age of nine, he began singing in the church choir, and shortly after, he joined a dance group led by P\u00e9rola Jaime, from the National Company of Song and Dance. However, it was at the age of 17 that he took his first steps in professional music, as a backing vocalist for the renowned South African artist Penny Penny, alongside his sisters Belita and Domingas, and the band Omba M\u00f4.<\/p>\n

Her solo career blossomed in 2014 with the songs "Nkata" and "Donguissa," which address sensitive issues such as domestic violence. The impact of these songs was immediate, and in 2015 Tchakaze was awarded the titles of Revelation Artist and Best Female Voice at Ngoma Mozambique, in addition to winning the Best Song award from 99FM radio.<\/p>\n

In 2019, he released the album Tchukela<\/em>, a work of 12 tracks recorded live, available in physical and digital format, which further consolidated his presence in the music scene. That same year, he took his art beyond borders by performing in Macau with the band Timbila Muzimba.<\/p>\n

More than just an artist, Tchakaze also holds a degree in Psychiatry and Mental Health from the Maputo Institute of Health Sciences, a field in which she works as a social activist. Her work focuses particularly on emotional health and combating gender-based violence.<\/p>\n

Lately, she has stood out with the project "S\u00f3 Elas" (Only Them), which celebrates female strength and expression on stages of great importance, such as the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center (CCFM). In April of this year, she released the single No Time to Lose<\/em>, a fusion of traditional and modern rhythms that reaffirms its message of empowerment and resistance.<\/p>\n

At 35, Tchakaze celebrates more than just a milestone: he commemorates a journey of resilience, creativity, and dedication. His art continues to reflect Mozambican reality, with a firm voice in defending cultural identity, gender equality, and social transformation.<\/p>\n
