In the context of the celebrations of Mozambican Women's Day, marked on April 7, the Pedagogical University of Maputo (UP-Maputo) held a lecture on Wednesday (2), conducted by the writer and Professor Honoris Causa Paulina Chiziane. Under the theme \u201c"Women's Education in Mozambique: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow"\u201d<\/strong>, Chiziane brought to light the little-known story of Queen Achivangela, from the Niassa province.<\/p>\n

The writer used an artistic approach to tell the story of the queen, combining dance, music, poetry, and theater. She highlighted Achivangela's role in resisting slavery and preserving human life, emphasizing how this historical figure began as a slave and religious leader before achieving her place as queen.<\/p>\n

According to Paulina Chiziane, after 50 years of independence, Mozambique needs to reflect on its history and recover values that once guaranteed women a central role in society., \u201c"Women have always been queens, governors, doctors, and religious leaders. We need to understand where we went wrong in order to get back on that path."\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The event took place in the Paulus Gerdes Amphitheater and was attended by a predominantly female audience. The Rector of UP-Maputo, Professor Jorge Ferr\u00e3o, highlighted the importance of women in education and in the socio-economic development of the country, reinforcing that a collective effort is needed for the reconciliation and appreciation of the female role in society.<\/p>\n

In addition to the lecture, the celebration included a health and gastronomy fair, as well as recreational activities with performances by the university's choir.<\/p>\n
