Chico Ant\u00f3nio passed away last Sunday, January 14th, due to illness at the central hospital in Maputo.
\nChico Ant\u00f3nio was born on May 13, 1958, in the Magude district, Maputo province. Between 1979 and 1992, he was part of groups that composed music based on traditional Mozambican rhythms, such as: Instrumental Group No. 1 of light music, RM (a group from R\u00e1dio Mo\u00e7ambique), and the Marrabenta Star Orchestra of Mozambique. He later toured countries such as England, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Zimbabwe, Guinea Conakry, and Cape Verde.<\/p>\n
In 1990, he won the Discoveries prize from RFI (Radio France International) and received a scholarship to study basic piano techniques, arrangements and studio sound recording.
\nOn April 4, 2018, Chico Ant\u00f3nio received the Career Award from the Maputo Municipal Council, in recognition of his actions to promote and enhance Mozambican culture at national and international level.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
